Mt. Vernon and Enola School District consolidated in 1991 to form Mt. Vernon-Enola School District. The school district is composed of the communities of Mt. Vernon, Enola, and Naylor. Livestock farming is a major economic activity in the area. The school is the district’s largest employer and the center of community activities. The consolidation has led to a broader curriculum and more extracurricular activities for students. The improvement in inter-community relations has been a major factor in the success of the school and its students. Each year brings changes that enhance the quality of the community and the school’s education.

Mt. Vernon-Enola High School and Elementary School are located on former campuses. The high school has many facilities, including three classroom buildings, an agriculture building, a family and consumer science building, a cafetorium, a gymnasium, and administrative offices. The business department has two fully equipped computer labs, one for advanced classes and one for intermediate. Enrollment has risen over the past five years due to parents moving from urban to rural areas. Students have access to advanced technology and a wide variety of curriculum choices. The district has a comprehensive K-12 character education program, and the State Report Card shows excellent ratings.
