JOB REQUIREMENTS AND WORK SCHEDULE: Must have LPN license, school nurse experience preferred. 178 Day Contract

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mount Vernon-Enola K-6 School Nurse facilitates and promotes health and safety for all students and staff. The school nurse intervenes with actual and potential health problems; provides case management services; and actively collaborates with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To work in conjunction with the 7-12 Nurse Supervisor.
  • To identify health needs of pupils and school personnel
  • To help school personnel interpret health records and use the information as a tool in the guidance of students
  • To maintain updated health records and current immunizations of all students in accordance with guidelines developed by the State Department of Education
  • To screen students for vision, hearing, scoliosis, BMI and refer to proper specialists
  • To assist in communicable disease control and reporting
  • To observe and evaluate individual physical, emotional and social health, and refer as needed
  • To provide teachers with up-to-date health information and facts
  • To work closely with other health agencies, faculty, parents and students
  • To coordinate along with 7-12 Nurse on CPR certification of staff members.
  • To monitor/maintain AED (monthly)
  • To attend health workshops throughout the school year
  • To administer first aid for sick and injured and responsible for documenting results
  • To communicate with parents (written or verbal) concerning their child’s health needs- confers with physicians as needed
  • To purchase first aid supplies and distribute to each campus as needed
  • To provide direct and indirect teaching to students as requested
  • To perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee’s supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent
