We are excited to have John join our team as we continue working to move our district forward while supporting our core values of Integrity, Innovation, Achievement, and Family.
John is a lifelong Mount Vernon resident and a proud MVE graduate. He and his wife, Marcia, have been married nearly 29 years and have two children, Kailey and Jastin. John shared that his decision to serve comes from a desire to give back to the district that helped shape him and to be part of a team that supports students and sets them up for success.
We are grateful for his willingness to serve and look forward to the impact he will make.

Trap shooting teaches our students focus, discipline, responsibility, and how to handle both success and setbacks with confidence. These are lessons that carry far beyond the range.
Our shooters have been putting in the work, and it shows. From personal bests to perfect rounds, we are proud of the dedication and perseverance displayed each time they step on the line. A special shoutout to Ben Thomason on his first perfect 25—an accomplishment that reflects his hard work and determination.
The Claybusters have also been competing at a high level, bringing home top finishes and making their mark across multiple events. From strong squad performances to individual standouts, our students continue to represent MVE with pride and excellence. We are especially proud of athletes like Case, who is already making a big impact in his first year, and all of our shooters who continue to improve each time they compete.
We are proud of every student who is part of this program and the way they represent our school and community.

In our Left Brain classrooms, students build specific skills independently. In our Right Brain classrooms, they apply those skills creatively in groups. Movement is woven throughout because physical development supports cognitive growth.
This innovative approach reflects our commitment to innovation and achievement at every level.

This week’s spotlight is Ms. Lawaynea Barker.
Ms. Barker believes school pride is about showing up each day with a positive attitude and doing your part to create a great environment for students and staff. She works to make sure students feel loved, safe, and important, and takes pride in helping them grow and build confidence.
Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family and making lasting memories. After a long day, you’ll likely find her enjoying her favorite comfort meal—chicken fajitas with Mexican rice and cheese dip. And if she could travel anywhere, Disney World would be at the top of her list.
We appreciate the care, positivity, and dedication Ms. Barker brings to our school each day.
